Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Help with MP3 files and PowerPoint

Post by appleman » Mon Jul 26, 2010 8:33 pm

Hi,
I am trying to embed MP3 audio files in PowerPoint 2007 for educational purposes on the web (I run a PC with Windows XP). I used the LAME download with Audacity 1.2.6 to create the MP3 files. However, I cannot seem to get PowerPoint to read the MP3 files. It will create a working presentation with audio if I export files from Audacity as a WAVE audio file. The MP3 files I have created are playable with Windows Media Player and with Itunes. This may be a more appropriate question for a PowerPoint Forum, but I thought I would give this one a try. Any settings/options I might be missing to get these MP3 files to work with PP? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

yes it would ;) but I had a similar problem myself recently with a video file. PowerPoint will only support media files if (1) the file is supported by Windows Media Player, and (2) Windows Media Player is the default player for that format. (Double clicking on the file must launch Windows Media Player, and play.)

I'd forgotten that
I know that was true in "Office 98", does the same limitation still apply to "Office 2007"?

Adding a wav header to the mp3 file worked like a charm. Thank you all!
