I have had Audacity on my desktop for 3 years and had no problems. I just use it to record tapes to cd or radio programs. It has always recorded in stereo and I dont remember how I set it to record in Stereo to start with.
I now have a laptop using Windows XP prof and have downloaded Audacity on to it but when I press record it records in mono with one track. I see from The instructions to click on the A/O tab? but cant seem to find it. I am a very basic user and not technical at all so would be very grateful for any help. Its probably a very simple answer. I notice that on the laptop the drop down box with the recording method ie internal microphone etc is on the far right of the screen and dousent have sterio mix which I have on the desktop.
All help much appreciated.

Check which version of Audacity you are using (look in Audacity "Help menu > About Audacity).
I would highly recommend the 1.3.12 version, and if you have an earlier version for you to upgrade.

In Audacity 1.3.12, go to "Edit > Preferences > Devices" and select "Channels: 2 (stereo)".

I have now bought a usb soundcard (Behringer uca222). I have connected it up but have no sucess in actualy recording anything. I believe I saw on the site somewhere a lesson in setting up the Behringer UCA202 but now I cant find it.
Could you tell me where to find it and if there is any difference between the two models ?

As far as I can tell the only difference between the 202 and the 222 is the colour. :?

If you have not already updated Audacity, you should do so. Audacity 1.3.13 has just taken over as the most desirable version of Audacity http://audacityteam.org/download/

In Audacity 1.3.13, the Device Toolbar should be shown near the top of the interface. If it's not you can enable it from the "View" menu.
Select the USB option as the recording device in the Device Toolbar.
