Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Cannot play one track on my laptop, works on my desktop

Post by lehighlinda » Thu Jul 22, 2010 2:08 am

Here is a bug.

I copied an audacity project and its data folder to a jump drive. The project consists of a tune ripped from CD plus a single recorded stereo track. I can play and record fine from the original project on my desktop PC, AND I can also use the project on the jump drive if it is plugged into my desktop (Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3). But when I plug the jump drive into my laptop, ONLY the recorded track will play!!! Both tracks show up on the screen (the original ripped CD track and the recorded track), but when I click play, there is NO sound from CD track. So there is no sound at all if the added recorded track is muted, and if the recorded track is not muted, then that track is all I hear. I have the same version of Audacity (1.2.6) on both PCs, and both are running Windows XP Pro, updated to the latest stuff as of 7/20/10. What's the deal?

Any help much appreciated!

You need to put the file ripped from the CD onto the laptop in the exact same file path that it has on the desktop. Look at the .aup file to find the path Audacity is expecting. See Dependent Files on the Wiki for details.
