Combining 4 Mono files

Post by bonny » Wed Jul 21, 2010 5:00 pm

Hello...

I want to combine 4 mono files (8 bit PCM 44100Hz) to one 4 channel file. Is that possible?

All my attempts fail. I can only combine two mono files to 2 channel (stereo) file.

Thanks..

p.s.
If not possible with audacity what software (probably free one) can do that?

You need to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12, then go to:
"Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export" and select the "Use Custom Mix" option, then when you go to Export the audio you will be presented with a channel mapping screen where you can select which track goes to which channel in your exported file.
(Audacity does not yet support playing multichannel audio, only importing and exporting).
