Hi Folks. New user.
I am using 1.3 Beta on Windows Vista.I record my own voice with no effects attached, and when I play back, I sound like James Earl Jones--huge Bass effect. Again, I have not put any effects on. I have tried uninstalling and re installing and can't seem to get rid of the problem. It was working fine for months, but now when I seriously need it, I can't solve the problem. Please Help ASAP
Thanks much

Don't fix it - you have a new career ahead of you

The problem is probably a sound card setting rather than Audacity. Audacity has no ability to apply effects other than when you manually apply an effect from the Effect menu. Is it also playing at the wrong speed (too slow), or is it just too much bass?
If it is just too much bass, have a look near the time/date (bottom right corner of the Desktop) for a loudspeaker icon. Double click on the icon and look to see if any effects are enabled - in particular if there is an Equalizer enabled.
If you still have problems, see if you can find out what sort of sound card you have (it usually says on the "Mixer" interface that opens from the loudspeaker icon).
Is this a laptop computer?

what is your normal voice? are you sure ?
what mike are you using?
speak close to a cardioid and the bass will be boosted via proximity effect.

When I dbl click the speaker icon it says Speakers/Headphones (Sigma Tel HD Audio Cdec), which is checked. Above that is Digital Output device (SPDIF OUT) and (Sigmal Tel HD etc) same as other. There appear to me be no effects attached. No it is not my voice simply being too close to the speaker...it is a pronounced Bass effect. Thanks for the effort...Any other ideas?

Do you capture internet/YouTube audio or music? There is a special capture setting called "Mix-Out," "Stereo-Mix," or "What-U-Hear" that is used to do that. You need to make sure that's turned off for live microphone recording.

That's set in the Windows Control Panels.

This is the tutorial for recording internet music. You want to do the exact opposite of this -- make sure you do not have these settings.
