I downloaded several songs that play fine in Winamp, but I haven't had any luck burning them. Audacity will import the files, but they won't play (the needle just skips right to the end + you get a high-pitched squeal.) Of course, I can't edit or export them.
Here's some data about the tracks:
417 KBPS
44 KHZ
CD - STEREO
Compression Ratio - 29%
Does anyone know what could be causing this?
Thanks.

Re: Can't open files in Audacity
Yes. The files are in a compressed format that Audacity doesn't recognize. Rather than fail to open them, Audacity will try anyway an usually get the compression and speed wrong.
You need to convert these files to WAV, MP3, or Ogg-Vorbis to edit them in Audacity.
