That's it. Nyquist plug-ins are written in plain text. Just download the "notch.ny" file and move or copy it into your Audacity plug-in folder. It will appear in the Effect menu when you next launch Audacity.

Smashing thanks. That works.
However wouldn't it be easier if they were simply available as updates.
So just click on one link to download all those new plugins in one move.

Easier, but may be not desirable. Audacity runs under all three operating systems and there could be problems with global downloads. That and Audacity goes to great pains to stay small and fast. There are a lot of "If Onlys" that would increase Audacity's size and decrease its speed. Each of the elves has a favorite one.

Re: Need notch filter but all there is is a doc to download
There was a discussion between the developers a while ago as to whether any kind of auto-update should be included in Audacity. It was decided at that time (and I believe rightly so) that including any networking capability into Audacity would be a huge drain on human resources (both developers and support). Not only are their the functional issues, but it would open up a big tin of security issues. Currently, if anyone has concerns about unauthorised programs connecting to the Internet, we can say with certainty that it has nothing to do with Audacity as Audacity has no networking capability. The only way that Audacity can prompt an Internet connection is with standard html links.Pobinr wrote:However wouldn't it be easier if they were simply available as updates.
Another issue is that there are literally hundreds of plug-ins available for Audacity. Far more than most users would want installed.
Something that I have considered though, is putting together some "Nyquist Plug-in Packs" that provide small collections of plug-ins that are useful for particular types of task. For example, a "Podcaster Pack" may include plug-ins to assist cross-fading, vocal compression, high-pass filter for vocals, de-esser, and so on. Hopefully I'll have a bit more spare time in the latter half of August to look at this.

Thanks for the replies. That works. I see your point.
Be nice if one could save equalisation curves with the 15 band equaliser

If you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 you can (one of the many improvements in the 1.3 version).Pobinr wrote:Be nice if one could save equalisation curves with the 15 band equaliser
Audacity 1.3 is officially a "beta" version, but it is a very late and well tested beta version - on most computers it is more stable than the old 1.2.6 version (which many of us think is now past it's "sell-by date"). You can have both versions installed at the same time, but projects saved by Audacity 1.3 cannot be opened in Audacity 1.2.
