I managed to get this up and running. I recorded and managed to get a playback. However the playback was not quite smooth.
Also the graph displayed seems to be going over the boundaries: does this mean it is being distorted?

How do I smoothen or lessen the distortion?

You can get distortion if the volume of the recording is too high. Watch the bouncing ball volume meter as you record and never let it go all the way to the right. You can make the meters bigger by resizing the whole Audacity work window.

Yes, the blue waves on the timeline are a measure of loudness and they're never allowed to go all the way up and down -- to "1" either way. You need to reduce the loudness of the performance during the recording.

Typical display...

HI, I am also a new user. I don't know what I do with the two sets of red and white plugs. Are they for something else or do I need them to set up the recorder to my PC? I thought this was going to be simple but at my age, nothing is simple!! Any help is appreciated. :D
