Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

No Volume on Audacity

Post by oboist1 » Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:06 pm

I downloaded Audacity 1.2 .6 on a newer Windows computer.

I have an Audacity file from another computer that I copied to a USB drive (along with the data files).

I cannot get any sound from the file. I checked the wire connections, tested the sound board and software with a music sample and CD and it all works fine. Only Audacity does not have sound. I can see the left and right channel waveforms and the "moving line" as the music progresses - but there is no sound. :?

The AUP file and the /DATA folder (and contents) may not be enough. If the original show used someone else's sound files, then all those files need to come over as well -- and in their original folders. This is why we tell people they can't move Projects. If you have a complex show, you may have files sprayed all over your computer and it will be virtually impossible to get them all transferred and in the right place.

The AUP file and the /DATA folder need to be in the same folder or directory. 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2.

You can avoid that External Files problem by telling Audacity to always copy sound files into itself for editing.

Edit > Preferences > Import/Export > Copy all files....Safer.

That's where it is in Audacity 1.3. I don't have Audacity 1.2.

The blue waves on the timeline come from a couple of graphics files inside the /DATA folder. You can have those and still have a completely silent show -- particularly after you try to move a Project.
