Some trouble

Post by Jordan9230 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 2:58 am

Well my phone is a SGH-a737 and if I want a new ringtone the format needs to be in MMF.

The problem is that the converts I tried the converts from the page below but either don't work or cost money.
And the ones that don't say anything about MMF I don't try.

So does anyone have a converter that is free and converts WAV to MMF?

MMF isn't a music format. It's a cousin to MIDI which isn't a music format either. They're both instruction formats and the music actually comes from the chip in the phone. It's possible to force MMF to carry PCM music clips, but that's the exception, not the rule.

There are a number of patent and copyright restrictions associated with these formats which is probably why you havnent been able to find a free one. This is similar to the lame/MP3 problem that Audacity has. Programs that create MP3 files have to pay a royalty to the Fraunhofer Institute.

I tried the same thing with the same phone. For Ringtones, it can use mp3 files less than 40k in size. For things like the calendar (and I believe the alarm, playing with that now) you must have .mmf. I have no idea about the size/time limits for the calendar or alarm, will found out and update forum. BUT, another forum directed me to this link:

http://smaf-yamaha.com/tools/downloads.html#converter

Goto converters and download the "Wave to SMAF Converter (WSC-MA2-SMAF)" converter. You can use an exported .wav (wave) file to create your mmf. Good luck, I am off to try it now.
