We are wanting to begin using a computer at our Church to record our service for delayed radio broadcast. We are currently using a CD Burner which is starting to die and have problems. It records directly to a CD (audio CD when it finalizes taking only about 1 min. 17 sec.) and each pause creates a track. This is desired because if there are any parts directed to our Church members only and not for the public, we simply tell the radio station to skip, i.e. track 5 when it is rebroadcast. All of that said:

Is Audacity capable of creating separated tracks within the single file it will record by using the pause or other function. I know now that when I record things at home and pause several times, it comes out as a single, 1 track file. Is there a way this can be done? If so, could someone guide me to or provide instructions for doing this? If not, would anyone be able to recommend a piece of software that can do this? Preferably free, but a modest cost is acceptable.

Thanks,
Mark Reep

I've been thinking about the best way to do this.

You can cause Audacity to create markers, I think hot. Press a key sequence during the recording and a label will be placed on the time line. After the performance, you can cause Audacity to create individual sound files based on the labels. Scoop the appropriate files up and burn them to a CD. That's not going to be fast. Normal burning times will apply -- significantly slower than the real-time recorder.

I think you will find no other solution with the speed of the real time recorder. We have a number of churches posting wondering about the best way to speed up creation of CDs. Most of them want to hand CDs to the people leaving the church after the service.

even with many fast stand alone burners for multiple copies at once that is not going to be feasible

they should hand them out the next week
encourage folks to keep coming back :)

And that key sequence ist CTRL+M which will mark the currrent playback/record position.

Or you can place your cursor and press CTRL+B to place a label at the cursor position (can be done whilw receording/playing)
