How to unpause?

I'm creating a file from a cassette being fed into my computer. Paused Audacity in the middle & paused the tape deck. When I came back, clicking Pause again sent the "cursor" back to the beginning. Couldn't click Record again. And I can't even save the file (in the hopes of recording the rest of the tape in a separate file and then pasting them together) because Save Project is grayed out. Help!

did you click on the pause button again
that makes my copy restart
and it continues from the end

if that does not work then you have bigger problems to look at

Yes, I clicked on the pause button again, without effect.
I have a feeling I'm missing something obvious here in terms of a basic control...

then you will need to tell us everything about the problem
what pc, what opsys, what options set, what version of audacity,
how it is cabled together, what you did, etc yada yada.

and do defrag your disk drive and check the free space too.
