Suddenly Stops recording

Audacity has worked really well for converting all my LP's. Now I'm using tapes it suddenly stops recording at random intervals. Does anyone know why?

The first thing that comes to mind is disk space - do you have plenty of free disk space? At the bottom left of the application window Audacity will indicate how much is available (based on current recording settings) expressed as hours and minutes of recording time.

Yes, plenty as this can happen in the first couple of minutes of recording.
