Click Track is silent when I try to record

I'm using Windows XP and Audacity 1.2.6.

I'd like to use a click track, but when I activate Record, the click sound disappears. I assume it's because the click track is Output and what I'm recording is Input. Somehow I'm not able to do both at the same time.

I have my piano keyboard going into my mixer with the mixer output going into my sound card (Audigy 2ZS Platinum). I have the output from the sound card going into the mixer. When I play the click by itself, it's fine. And when I play my piano keyboard by itself, it's fine. But when I try to record, the click track has no sound (and doesn't register on the output level meter).

How can I record and hear the click track at the same time?

Edit > Preferences > Recording > Overdub (play old tracks while recording new ones).

That's how its done in Audacity 1.3.12.

Audacity 1.2 is getting on in years and having more and more problems with modern computers.

You can have both Audacity versions on your machine but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Thanks, Koz. I knew it had to be something simple.
