Delay of recordings on more than one track

Ever since I was young, I used audacity, across multiple platforms, different systems, sound cards, etc. it's always given me this issue.

Each new track that I record doesn't align with the original track, it's always a bit delayed. I can remove a small section of the track to align it properly. I used to think I just had extremely bad reaction time or something, but I've learned it's either my OS or Audacity. Does anyone else know of this?

Thank you.

Every recording software on a domestic computer will lay down the recording behind the beat of a track you are overdubbing against. Please read the relevant Frequently Asked Question.
