Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

line-in

Post by lperatta » Fri Feb 22, 2008 5:13 pm

After I opened Audacity, I plugged into the microphone port and a window opened, giving me an option of internal microphone, external microphone, or line-in. It automatically detected line-in. This worked great for about a month. Then I received an update for Quicktime software. I applied the update. Now the window no longer comes up. Now I open Audacity, click on line-in as my source, plug in a mono or a stereo line, and line-in doesn't work. I have to choose internal microphone or external microphone for Audacity to be able to record. I uninstalled Quicktime completely but that didn't help. Any help is appreciated.

Go into your hardware "Device Manager" (Right-click on "My Computer" and choose Properties)... and looking at "Sound, video, and game controllers" choose your sound card, right-click and "Uninstall".

Then use your find new hardware wizard, which should see your sound card and walk you through reinstalling the driver for it. Do this with everything unplugged from your Mic/Line in.

This should fix things, and when you re-plugin your device, the pop-up window should reappear asking you the same question.
