Hello
I have version 1.2.6 and Windows XP Home addition.
Does Audacity have these features or is anyone able to implement them soon?
They would help a lot of people and more people could be interested in the software as a result.
It would be good if the software could be played back at twice the normal speed and 1.5 times the normal speed so the audio can be understood in a similar manner to VLC Media Player. This would save people a lot of time as they could listen to something in less time.
It would also be good if the point that the file is playing from can be simply changed by clicking on the bar without having to press the stop button first. You can do this with VLC Media Player. With Audacity it is a bit of a nuisance to have to click the stop button first as it is an extra step and often people want to click and go back and repay something many times.
A step back and forward feature would also be good so that when a button or key is pressed, the software would start playing from a point about 30 seconds earlier without having to press the stop button first. This would enable replaying the last 30 seconds easily. If the button is pressed twice it could go back 60 seconds. Another button could enable stepping forward. A single key stroke would be good without having to press the CRTL key as well. For example, the right and left arrows. The right arrow could be used to move it forward 30 seconds.
Also, I have to click the zoom out button to see the whole bar at once or click the “fix in window” button to initially view the file the first time I play it. Can it be set up so that the file is always fixed in the window without having to click the button or press CTRL+F every time?
Your help would be appreciated,
Regards Richard

Re: Features that could help many people.
You really need to upgrade to 1.3.12 – ignore the Beta labelling a.3 is actually more stable on most modern platforms that the now ancient 1.2 – and 1.3 has many new useful features
Have a read of the 1.3 Manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... =Main_Page

In 1.3 the developers added a Transcription toolbar – which facilitates temporary playing at faster and slower speeds. You can achieve similar in 1.2 by selecting the Audio and using the Change Speed effect – but you will need to remember to change the speed back afterwards otherwise the audio will be permanently speed-changedRichard Hole wrote: It would be good if the software could be played back at twice the normal speed and 1.5 times the normal speed so the audio can be understood in a similar manner to VLC Media Player. In 1.3 while the audio is playing you can click in the time bar above the waveform and the audio will then start playing from that point.Richard Hole wrote: It would also be good if the point that the file is playing from can be simply changed by clicking on the bar without having to press the stop button first. With 1.3 you can advance the retard and playback time position with the enhanced Selection toolbar at the bottom of the Audacity window.Richard Hole wrote: A step back and forward feature would also be good so that when a button or key is pressed, the software would start playing from a point about 30 seconds earlier without having to press the stop button first. I don’t think so – but there is a zoom button you can click to get the project to fit to screen.Richard Hole wrote: Also, I have to click the zoom out button to see the whole bar at once or click the “fix in window” button to initially view the file the first time I play it.
