How would I turn volume up on one track?

You can click anywhere on the blue waves in the timeline and Play (or SpaceBar Play) will start from that point. Home key and End key work, too.

Drag-select a portion of the show and Control-E will zoom into that portion. Control-F will zoom out full. Control-3 will zoom out a little bit. Other zoom controls are available, but I live in those three.

Audacity will not scrub. You can't drag the cursor around the timeline and have the performance play Mickey Mouse fast like you can in a video editor.

You need to understand the Amplify tool. When you launch Amplify, the amount of amplification is automatically selected to make the portion as loud as possible without damage. Digital audio has a maximum loudness beyond which you can cause serious damage.

You don't have to use that value. You can type in a new value. Enter two or three dB to boost the volume very slightly. Add six or eight dB for a more serious volume boost. You can type in negative numbers to reduce the volume.

There are much more graceful ways to affect the loudness of the show, but that is one way.

If you're trying to match two portions of a show, you can use the bouncing lights meters. Watch the bouncing lights and guess at the average bounce of the good show. Play the bad show and watch the bouncing. Guess at the average. Let's say the bad show bounces on average six dB lower than the good show.

Select the bad show, Effects > Amplify and type 6 in the dB amplification box. Poof, the two shows match now. You really have to do this with your ears and not just the meters. The meters will only get you close.

If you have trouble reading the meters, you can drag them from the work window into your desktop and expand them.
