I've been ripping my vinyl records and exporting them as .WAV song by song, and about every third song shows up without a length in my Windows Media Player, and in the file properties itself. They'll still play with WMP, but the time scroll bar doesn't move and it doesn't allow me to burn those files to audio CDs. I assume I must be doing something wrong with the export, but I'm pretty consistent and like I said it doesn't happen every time. Anyone have any ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?

You don't say what version of Windows you are using, but I used Export Multiple to export 12 WAV (16-bit PCM) files from 1.2.6 on Windows 7 and they all show the length in Explorer properties. Are you using Export Multiple and are you giving each exported a track an explicit file name?

If there is any bug in 1.2 for earlier versions of Windows, we can't fix it because we are no longer developing 1.2.6. Please try Audacity Beta instead.

You're probably not doing anything wrong. I found that WMP does this with a lot of files (not only files from Audacity) and I've not been able to figure out why. I find that usually the length appears after the file has been played all the way through, but not always. It annoyances such as this (and many other annoyances) that lead me to dump WMP altogether.

I thought ****itup meant Explorer Properties, but in Windows Media Player in Windows 7, there is still no problem with the length being shown in the File properties, FWIW.

I've heard many times that WMP11 (which comes with XP SP3, I recall) will not accept WAV files for burning if they are dragged straight into a burn list without having previously been played in Media Player. You will see a red symbol and a "length of file cannot be determined" error. To solve this problem, drag the file into the Media Player Library or into a playlist, then from there into a burn list.

I hadn't heard WMP couldn't determine the length of a WAV if you just execute the file to play it. If you want a media player/manager replacement that can also convert files and burn CDs, try iTunes.
