I Need help in moving multiple sound files at once!

Post by dinorex79 » Mon May 24, 2010 3:46 am

Ok, I watched and read tutorials and I know how to exactly do it but it won't work! please help me because I need to do this as soon as possible.

Basically I have about 5 separate audio tracks and I want to move them all at once/together by selecting them all with the selection tool, clicking the time shift toolbar and dragging them all to the right, But it wont work! even though I'm clicking the selected part and therefore it is supposed to dragged all the audio files that are selected, only the part where the mouse is gets dragged even though multiple sound files are selected.
Also, don't know if it's relevant, when I'm dragging the selected sound file it seems only like a transparent screen is getting dragged and the selected part stays in place. Do I need to change some settings?

I bet you can't drag them all with the Time Shift Tool.

Create another long track underneath all the others and fill it with silence. I bet it now lets you move all the other tracks with reference to that silent track. I think Audacity needs to have at least one track that stays put.

You should seriously be in Audacity 1.3.12.

You are absolutely right mate. I downloaded the 1.3 beta one and installed it. Tried it and works now. I don't really like betas but it works so I'll have to keep it then. So, what did I have to do with 1.2 to make it work?

Did you try the silent track trick?

Audacity 1.3 hadn't been "beta" experimental/unstable for a long time. If you're on a newer Mac, Audacity 1.2 doesn't work at all. We have no choice.

No, I didn't try the silent trick at all; just un-installed the program and I'm using 1.3 now. But thanks for your help.
