Hi all,

Im not much of an Audiophile and am struggling to recreate a file type necessary for setting custom 'hold' music in Microsofts office communicator software; server attendant 2007.

It comes with one audio file as default for hold music and my company wish to replace this, however, it asks for the following format:
.wma9, 44KHz, 16bit, mono, CBR, 32kbps

I am able to select .wma, set the frequency to 44Khz and mono but am unsure about the rest.

Can this be achived with Audacity?

Audacity only supports the older WMA version 2. That is 16-bit, constant bit rate (CBR) because that is all that version supports. You can set the actual bit rate by clicking the Options button in the Export File window. There are options for 31 and 33 kbps bit rate.

If your application won't accept that file from Audacity, I suggest downloading dBPowerAmp and adding the WMA codec appropriate to your version of Windows. That will allow you to convert your file as a WMA version 9 file with the parameters you mention. If what you are trying to encode isn't already a file, export it as WAV from Audacity, and convert that WAV to WMA in dBPowerAmp.

You could also use Microsofts "Windows Media Encoder 9" which is available from Microsoft for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems.
