Perfect on Windows XP but too loud on Windows 7

Post by davey7 » Mon May 10, 2010 10:00 pm

I have 2 computers one is Windows XP and yes my Audacity is working perfectly but i recently bought a Windows 7 laptop and its frankly a god damned nightmare. The blue audio graphics is just massive and the sound coming in is far far too loud and just terrible.

Do i still use audacity on Windows 7 or do i use EZ tape/vinyl program?

cheers

Use Audacity 1.3.12 and read this (slowly and carefully - you may need to put the kettle on and make a drink before you start): http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_7_OS

yes i did download and use that specific Audacity package but the blue audio graphics are too big on windows 7? why is the sound too loud? i have tried lowering the PC volume mixer levels and it wasn't that.

You need to put the kettle on again :)
There are a lot of links on that page that all lead to important information regarding setting up Windows 7 (and Vista, which is almost as big a nightmare).

I don't use Windows 7, but apparently it has a habit of setting the recording level really high. You need to go into the Control Panel and turn the recording level down really low. This should point you in the right direction: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp

Same problem here with the speakers I bought this morning... what a shame...
Nothing from the support team anymore then ?
I read somewhere that someone solved the problem with a registry tweak, but it was with XP... nothing for Windows 7 or even Vista...
