I use Windows XP and Audacity 1.2.6. For mounth I used Audacity to record sounds and music.
A couple of week ago I wanted to record some more sounds and music but the mixertoolbar
don't show up the possibity to choose stereo mix, mono mix, CD player . I cannot record any sound.
I deinstallated 1.2.6, installated 1.2.6, deinstallated and installated 1.2.3. NO SUCCES at all.
I installated Lamm. Nothing!!!!
So please help me to be able to record sounds and music again.
Thanks
Burt

Choose the input you want in the system mixer:

But don't use 1.2.3. It's old and buggy. Use the current Beta 1.3.12 if you want a second version of Audacity.

You can put both versions on your machine, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2.

Thanks, as a bit of amplification to that, 1.2 projects will open in 1.3, but if you save them in 1.3, that stops you opening them again in 1.2.

Thanks for your answers. But still no succes unfortunately.
At the MIXER BAR I cannot choose a input opportunety like: line or phone etc
Its blank and GREY. When my Audacity was working I could choose an input source.
How can I solve this problem? I think when this is solved my Audacity will work again???
Hope you can help me further

As earlier mentheoned: I work with XP And not Vista
that always has a Grey Mixer toolbar
So using XP - the mixer toolbar is grey and recording is suddenly not working anymore.
But I can play music but no recording is possyble. It's not a computer component that failes, I think

The problem also sometimes occurs on XP - it depends on the sound card drivers.
The link provided by Gale Andrews covers Windows XP.

What are you trying to record and with what? Your voice with the microphone built into your laptop? A guitar with an external microphone plugged into an M-Audio 123 USB sound card? A YouTube video playing in Firefox? ......

I listen to the radio on my desktop computer (XP) and when I hear something nice I had Audacity to record
the music or an intervieuw. It always worked very well, but suddenly I could not record any sound at all.
Yes: I can listen to the music that is downloaded on mij hard disc but I cannot record it.
