audio dj 2
does it function well with audacity i need to transfer old cassette tapes and turn them into mp3's...

It works perfectly, but the step that usually kills producers is you can't do it with a Windows Laptop. Most Windows laptops have a mono, very low level, delicate microphone connection. It overloads very easily and will not do stereo.
Macs will do this and most Windows deskside machines will, or you can invest in a stereo USB adapter like the UCA 202.

what does the microphone jack have to do with it, wouldnt i be using the inputs on the audio dj 2 for the sound input?

You would probably be better to use the supplied TRAKTOR LE software as they are specifically designed to work together.
You may be able to use the NI audio 2 dj as a basic playback device with Audacity (depending on the availability of compatible drivers) but I notice that the NI web-site says:
"If you're a digital DJ who doesn't require audio recording ...."
so you probably will not be able to record with it.
