USB Turntable-to-PC (XP): Nasty periodic BUZZ

Post by dpo8912 » Wed Feb 06, 2008 10:31 pm

I'm recording old vinyl via a USB TT. Works great, except that every once in awhile, I get a real loud, nasty buzz and have to kill the session. I've shut down all apps from the PC, re-booted, etc. Still happens often enough to be a real pain. Any ideas?

From other posts on this forum, it seems to be an inherent problem with many USB TTs. The only real solution seems to be to bypass the USB and use the analogue (phono) output, go through a phono pre-amp and record with your soundcard "Line In".

The noise is the data streams falling out of lock with each other. Everybody get a version of them and in different places. It's unstable and changes with atmospheric pressure and humidity. One poster tells us it hates Glenn Miller.

No you can't "filter it out" later. You have to not have it in the first place.
