Hi there, Im new to Audacity and I'm totally lost! I am trying to upload audio from a recording that I took on my Digital Camera(Sony Powershot). The file is a PCM and I tried a extracting software(AOA audio extractor) to remove the audio from the video to use in Audacity. I have tried converting the audio to WAV. and MP3 and whenever I try to import it, it never works. If I try to import "raw" then a get a blue audio strip that is nothing but loud static and if I try just importing audio" the audio strip is blank and doesn't have any type of waveform.
I am totally lost! I've even tried just importing the actually pre-extracted video&audio file and I get the same results.
Any sugguestions? I was require to do this for a stupid school assignment.

Have you managed to extract the audio in a form that will play on anything?chelsejane21 wrote:The file is a PCM and I tried a extracting software(AOA audio extractor) to remove the audio from the video to use in Audacity. I have tried converting the audio to WAV. and MP3

Re: Static or no Sound
I tried extracting the audio and making the output both MP3 and WAVE, neither play in Itunes or Windows Media player. Could it be the software I used? The AOA?
Re: Static or no Sound
If the video is in one of the standard formats, e.g. mpg, avi or wma, then Audacity Version 1.3.x can open it and extract the audio automatically.
The current Beta version, 1.3.12 is available here:
http://audacityteam.org/download/
You will also need to install the ffmpeg library which you can get from here:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tallffmpeg
Once you get it set up, just import the video file into Audacity and you should have the audio.

That's a mighty big "IF".Irish wrote:If the video is in one of the standard formats
The thing that really bugs me about working with video is the thousands of combinations of containers, formats and codecs. Sometimes you can fall lucky, but other times you can be sweating for years trying to hit the right combination.
There is a really good (free) tool (for Windows) that can help take away some of the tears and hair pulling called "GSpot" http://www.headbands.com/gspot/
