I have recently purchased the deck and Audacity software. I have been having a good time time listening and recording some of my old vinyl - it reminds mof when I had hair!! However, some albums that I have recorded have not been given track times. This means I can play it on my laptop but am unable to burn the albums to a disk because the stupid computer does not know how long it is. Anyone come across this problem before? I would be grateful of any input.

I'm not quite sure if I understand your problem. Vinyl LP running times are rarely longer than 45 minutes and a CD-R will hold 80 minutes. If you export audio data from Audacity as WAV files, any CD burning software will indicate how many tracks you can add to a single disc. Can you expand on what you mean by "the computer does not know how long a track is"?

Thanks for answering.
I recorded one album succesfully, split and named the tracks and in that process the track time was included so that when the album was put into Media players library you had track 1 @@@@@ 4.59 and so on for the rest of the album. When burning this album to a cd, media player works out the combined track times and says yes to the burn if the track times are less than 80 minutes. Without that info it won't do it as I am assuming it's logical brain says I don't know how long it is so I can't do it. As far as I am aware I did nothing different from recording one album to another. I have also tried getting the track info of the net in the hope that it will fill in the missing info but unfortunatley it does not. I hope that makes a bit more sense.

What format are you exporting the files in? Media Player should be able to read the time from the file, so I'm not sure why it should fail to identify the durations. There should be no need to somehow manually add the time info to the file.

The files are exported in wave format.
I haven 't physically inserted the times for each track it is something that was done automatically in the recording process of one album and not for the others.If I click for the properties of these tracks it lists the file length as 0.00. Is it just a coincidence that I can not burn the albums without the track time or is there some issue with albums of a certain date? I am only talking about albums from the late 70s and early 80s.I take it that this is something that you personally have not come across before?

Hmm, this is a puzzle. Are you sure the files in question have data in them? Zero time implies empty audio files. Are you sure the albums are being recorded correctly in Audacity? If they are, then perhaps there's something going on when exporting to WAV - check the size of the files. The date of the vinyl is immaterial - the duration info is generated by Audacity when it records and not magically transferred from the LP

In all but this track time issue the files appear to be the same & they play without any problems thru media player.

Have you tried using something other than Media Player to burn a CD? There's plenty of free CD burner apps out there if you Google for them. It would be a useful experiment in pinning down what's going on here.

Good idea, I know I have Nero knocking about somewhere so I will get that installed and give it a go. I am away for a few days but as soon as I have tried it I will let you know. However, if that were to work it does not explain the initial problem.
