no audio on media player

Post by ohiogemstone » Sun May 02, 2010 3:54 am

I record the song and save it ..when I try to play it on Media Player, it shows it is playing, but I have no sound.
I have the record player unit and havent had any problem with doing those...but just got the cassette unit and no success...getting aggravated.
Not sure if I dont have settings right or what.

Audacity "saves" Audacity Projects, not audio files.
To produce an audio file that will play in other software you need to "Export".

The exported file must of course be in a format that is supported by your media player.
It is a lot easier to set the export file format if you use Audacity 1.3 and I would recommend that you upgrade to the latest 1.3 version (currently 1.3.12).

Also, if you plug in a USB device, Windows will by default set the USB device as the default device for recording and playback. The normal sound card is bypassed.
There is a tutorial for recording from USB turntables but much of it also applies to other USB devices: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/USB_turntables
