Parts of my sound file not playing

Hi,

Last night my sister worked in Audacity for a few hours and made 2 audio files. She saved them in the Audacity format, and it seemed everything was working fine when she did. Today I opened it up to export it as MP3, and when I played it, it was just complete silence.

Upon further investigation, I found that only a select few small parts of the song were actually playing, while the rest wasn't. This happens when I play it in Audacity as well, despite the fact that it looks like something should be playing.

Now when I tried to open the file in Audacity 1.3 beta, or in 1.2, when I tried to apply any effect to the entire file, I get this:

Basically, all the parts that actually do play are left, and the rest is gone. It's clearly not a problem of my audio output settings...but my sister swears it was all working last night.

I really need to fix this! All help is very greatly appreciated

Thank you! It seems that afterward, she moved the wav files she'd imported into the project.

That catches a lot of people. Did you manage to move it back and restore the project?
