Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Stereo Mix Broken

Post by MouseKey8 » Sun Apr 18, 2010 11:00 pm

I'm using Windows 7 with RealTek High Definition Audio soundcard, drivers are updated. I've tried 1.2 and the newest beta version.

I use Audacity to rip audio from TV shows and movies, usually with Windows Media Player or streaming websites. Up until recently it's been working fine, but after a recent Windows update, it no longer works.

Stereo Mix is selected as recording device, and enabled in the control panel.

Help!

Same here, tried every combination in both sound settings and audacity preferences. It was working a few days ago.

In audacity prefs for recording I can have either 'primary sound capture driver', 'headset' or 'stereo mix'. There is also 2 choices in Host which are MME and Windows Direct Sound (no idea what the difference is). In windows (7) sound settings for recording I can use 'headset' or 'stereo mix'. You'd think having windows direct sound turned on with stereo mix in both audacity and windows sound settings would do it but nope. Am sure I've tried every other possible option.

Audacity 1.2.6 is known to have problems with Windows 7. The recommended version is Audacity 1.3.12

There is documentation specifically for Windows 7 users here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Windows_7_OS
Also see here for how to enable recording inputs for Windows 7 (and Vista) : http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... es#vistacp
