Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I deleted the project file (.aup). How can I open the .au-files?

This article from the Wiki may help you: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/CrashRecovery

But are you sure you cannot recover the .aup file? Is it by any chance still in your wastebasket?

I tried "Audacity Recovery Utility" from the above, but it just created 22 wav (recovery) files from my first 193 au-files (my project has over 1000 au-files).

I could delete the first 193 au-files, then the "Audacity Recovery Utility" maybe takes the next au-files.

But what to do with these recovery-wav-files? 22 is less than 193, but how easily open them with Audacity? No project file was created by the "Audacity Recovery Utility".
