no line in option on mixer toolbar
Hello,
I don' know what else to do!!!!!
I connected a UCA200 USB in my laptop. I think I made the right connections pluging in my mixer, but still I can't record using my keyboard. When I play it, AUD records from my speakers and not form line-in.
My MIXER TOOBAR only gives me one option - "master", and I can only record thru microphone.
How do I make my keyboard "talk" to AUD?
I appreciatte any help!
Thanks a lot
Fred

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
I am using XP and have a similar problem. I cannot select line in or mic as the box is greyed out. I have uninstalled a nd reinstalled the programme several times but no result. Bruce
Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.12
Then go to "Edit Menu > Preferences > Devices" and select the recording device that you want to use. For fregodoy that will be the USB option.

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
The only option I have in "devices" is Microphone (USB Audio COdec). Ins't there supposed to be any Line-In option in the drop-down list?

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
You only get the analog Line-In option if your laptop actually has one. Most Windows laptops don't. That's why you bought the UCA-200.
You get an actual analog Line-In with a Mac or larger Windows deskside machine. Windows laptops typically only have analog mono, low level, Mic-In.

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
The "USB" option will be your USB sound card, unless you have any other USB audio devices connected. Whether it's called "UCA 202 (USB)" or "USB audio codec" or something else depends on how your operating system describes the chip. On my machine (Linux) the UCA-202 is just described as "USB audio CODEC".

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
Ok... but I'm having a hard time to understand why AUD will only get the sound thru the mic.
I connected the UCA200 in my computer, used the RCA cable (UCA-out into the cd/tape in and vice-versa in my mixer). I'm not sure if I'm expecting the right result. I thought the computer would get the audio from my keyboard thru the UCA200, but it doesn't happen. Only thru mic.

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
Which mixer have you got?
You can plug your headphones into the mixer and hear the music, right?
Close Audacity.
I'm only going to describe the path that matters. Tape-Out of the mixer to INPUT L & R of the UCA200. Line up Right and Red. Left and Black.
Plug in the UCA200 and open the Windows Control Panel.
Windows Control Panel
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... trol_Panel
You need to find the UCA200 or something that looks like the UCA200 and select it for recording. OK and close the panel.
Then open Audacity. Go into Audacity preferences and reset for 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Go into Audio I/O and see if the UCA200 is listed there. Select it. Restart Audacity.
Where in all that did you get stuck? Don't leave any steps out.

I'm not sure what you mean. What are you trying to record - and how is it connected? Where does the keyboard fit in?fregodoy wrote:I connected the UCA200 in my computer, used the RCA cable (UCA-out into the cd/tape in and vice-versa in my mixer).
Outputs should always connect to inputs and inputs connect to outputs.

Re: no line in option on mixer toolbar
I just downloaded v 1.2.6, but after selecting my line in/out option in Preferences, nothing shows up in the input box. If I hit Record, I get an error message about no inputs selected.
I have Windows XP Home, Svc Pack 3. Pentium 4 3 GHz. 1 G RAM. My line in/outs are on my modem, which is listed as an Intel 536EP, which I later discovered is just the chipset.
I also have MAGIX Audio Cleaning Lab 2004 which might have captured the line ins. I uninstalled the Magix program, but no help. The line in works; I get sound through my speakers (plugged into line outs) when I play audio into the line ins.
