Same as my scratch built UFO but with Audacity's "sliding time scale/Pitch shift" applied,
(I can't remember if 1.2 has that effect}

That's what I used, and no, it's not in Audacity 1.2.6 - Audacity 1.3 only.

I may have got the mono-stereo transition advice the wrong way round,
the attached example starts (pseudo)stereo and ends mono ...
The heartbeat does sound more "in-your-face", (closer), towards the mono end.
(BTW example derived from this Freesound)
