Downloaded Ver 1.2.6 for use on Windows XP w SP 3 & registered w Lame for Audacity on 4/7/2010.
Just tried to Record from Line IN and could only get mono. Can not find the I/O tab in preferences to set stereo mode!
There is NO 'Preferences' in the 'File' Drop down menu!! Do I have to install a special plug-in for this? Help.

Note that Audacity has changed some of the layout since Audacity 1.3 was introduced and now has a new manual.

For Preferences in Audacity 1.2.6, click on -
"Edit menu > Preferences"
The record settings are in the "Audio I/O" tab.
