Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Do you use Skype? Skype can mess up sound pathways whether or not Audacity is there.

Re: Youtube
Or do you use a USB audio device, such as a USB turntable?

Re: Youtube
The answer to both of those questions is no.
Re: Youtube
Well that's the two quick 'n' easy possibilities out of the way, now we'll have to start digging.
You need to start this off - what sort of computer, what operating system, which exact version of Audacity, what sort of headphones/speakers....
Don't spare the detail, too often it takes half a dozen posts before some key bit of information comes out - a thorough description at the start can save a great deal of time (too much information is better than not enough).

Re: Youtube
Intel Premium 4
Windows XP SP3
Audacity 1.3
Altec Speakers as shown in this image: http://www.boyntontech.net/images/Altec ... $35.99.jpg
MP3 files stored on my computer work fine. But I can't hear anything stored on the internet.

Re: Youtube
OK, I've got my Intel Premium 4 and Windows XP SP3
Not sure exactly which version of Audacity to go for I'll try 1.3.12
Altec Speakers - ok, I plug these into my laptop? with a little round mini-jack plug?
Am I right so far?
What do I need to do to make it go wrong?
Open my web browser, start playing something on YouTube, then open Audacity and the YouTube video freezes? Is that what's happening?

Re: Youtube
Sorry I couldn't find this thread, but now I've bookmarked it. No, Youtube doesn't freeze. If there's a video, I can see it find. I just can't hear anything from it and audacity just records the same blankness that I hear.stevethefiddle wrote:OK, I've got my Intel Premium 4 and Windows XP SP3

Re: Youtube
Oh, Audacity is not recording the YouTube sound.

The Audacity red recording meters should be bouncing during the recording. No meters, no recording.
