Audacity Forum

I have Audacity 1.2.6 installed on my XP computer and have performed a 14.5 hour recording over night. This gave more then 4000 .au files. I have read in the forum that this causes the Audacity to run into a 4 GB limitation which makes it impossible for the .aup file to handle the .au files.

Now the question. Is there anyway to take care of this problem? Maybe by dividing the existing recording into two projects, export them to two files and thereafter merge them? If so how is this done?

The problem is that there is a 4GB limit on WAV files. There may be other size limitations due to the operating system, the disk file system, or other factors including insufficient free disk space.

If the project will open and work correctly in Audacity (if it is not corrupt), you can select part of the file and export it using "Export Selection".
I would recommend exporting sections no larger than 1 hour or 1GB (whichever the smaller).

Why do you need to join them back together? Will a "play list" serve your needs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M3U
