Quick question for anyone out there. Is there anyway to convert a stereo wave track to mono in audacity? Have searched forum topics for an answer to this question, but dont see it anywhere. Thanks.

Re: Convert stereo to mono in Audacity?
From memory since I can't find it either.
Black down arrow on the left > Split Stereo Track.
Using the little slider, reduce each track level to -6.
Black down arrow > Mono (each track).
Select one track, Shift-Select the other one (both selected).
Project > Quick Mix.
That should give you one single audio track with no overload, clipping, or damage and a direct summation of the two original Left and Right performances.

Re: Convert stereo to mono in Audacity?
If you use "Amplify" instead and set the "New peak amplitude" to -6dB (minus 6), then the mix will usually peak close to 0dB. (assuming that peaks are common to both tracks). As long a neither track exceeds -6 dB there is no chance that the mix will go over 0 dB and "clip".kozikowski wrote:...
