Dropdown category list.

I'm new to this forum, but I've been using Audacity for some time, and I'm quite pleased with it. My question pertains to the dropdown list of music genre categories that appears when I do an "Export as mp3" command. That invokes a screen where auxialiary title information for the track is to be entered. So far, so good.

When it comes to the "genre" blank, you get a dropdown list. Is there any way to prune unwanted genres out of that list, or alternatively, disable the dropdown list altogether in favour of simply typing one's own choice into the blank? I have to tell you, there is zero chance of me ever wishing to record a track characterized as "death metal", "christian rap", or "{word rejected} groove" to name but a few.

Bottom line: it's clumsy to have to pick through a long list to find the relatively few values I want to use. Seems to me the simplest solution would be to allow direct entry by the user.

I don't believe that you can edit the list - or provide user generated genres (but you can of cause edit the ID3 tag later, after export).

Workaround to manage picking from the list: type in the first letter of the genre you want and it will go to that point in the list.

Thanks for the tip, wax cylinder.
I actually have 2 or 3 old cylinder records in my possession.

Hopefully the developers will take notice of this issue with the dropdown list for the ID3 tag. Let's face it; there are potentially as many "genres" as there are users. Trying to fit them all into a dropdown list rapidly becomes unwieldy.

Audacity is not the only program I've encountered that has issues with dropdown lists.
