beginners blues

hello people,

new to computers and www ... someone downloaded audacity for me ... lovely to see all the lovely little musical waves after years of tape cassettes... might even enjoy playing around with editting .... BUT I get 3 different files for every song aup.bak wavesound and audacity project file ... makes life very confusing ... dont give up yet .... maybe my audacity is incompoatible with windows 7? ... so I tried to download audacity beta ... cant find where .. go round and round in circles .. a little help would be welcome ... Rob

For Windows 7, you should be using the latest version, 1.3.12, available here:
http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_windows#recdown
Click on the link for 2000/XP/Vista.

so -I downloaded 1.3 beta - and now get a folder full of all the subsidiary files

a useful link to "information on how Audacity deals with Project files and sound files"
and I understand now that I shouldnt expect to be able to change file names …

I imagine this is in order to make it lighter or quicker etc. until the great day comes when you want to export as MP3 ... but then I got „Lame“ and an MP3 file is 280Kb whereas the folder with basic data is 6Mb … maybe I shouldnt try and understand such hidden mysteries just yet …?
