My neighbor said you can take out the music out of a song on Audacity and I couldn't find anything that takes out the music. Thanks

my experience is that many people have lost significant hearing andor caused themselves other permananet hearing problems such as tinnitus with much less SPL for much less time than 30 seconds.

many people say the govt recommendations are way too optimistic.

Personally I do not listen to anything over 80db without my hearing protectors. And if you get a sound over 100db I move away quickly if not able to avoid the situation in the first place. YMMV but so may your tolerance to risky behaviour.

What exactly were you listening to? You can adjust your Windows machine by accident to produce feedback and if the frequency is high enough, it will hurt your ears but you won't be able to tell why.

Go into Windows Control Panels and make sure you don't have Mix-Out, Stereo-Mix, Or What-U-Hear selected. Those will cause sound damage if they're active at the wrong time and may cause feedback.

Also, go into Audacity Preferences and make sure Hardware Playthrough is not selected. Restart Audacity if you have to change it.
