Error Playing Imported Files

Hello,

When I play an imported audio file in Audacity v. 1.2.6, a get this brief, high-pitched screeching sound. The visual tracker blazes through the file in a split second, and the file played back in Audacity sounds nothing like the actual sound file. I'm not at all sure what's happening.

What's even more complexing is that Audacity worked perfectly the first time I tried this. I used Audacity to create a ringtone for my phone. I took a music file, imported it, cut the section I wanted, created a new file. Bam, ringtone. It was one of the simplest things I've ever done. I went to do it a second time, and I started getting these weird noises.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

The first time you lucked out. It was in a file format that Audacity understands.

Audacity Version 1.3 allows you to import a much wider range of file types than 1.2 does, because it supports the ffmpeg import/export library.

The current version, 1.3.12 is available here:
http://audacityteam.org/download/

You will also need to install the ffmpeg library which you can get from here:
http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tallffmpeg

You can have both 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine, but you an only have one running at any time. Projects saved in 1.3 can't be opened in 1.2.
