Sound playback

Hello - I installed the Audacity software last night, but since then I cannot hear anything from my speakers except for the recording I made from a turntable, and clicking on "play" from the Audacity program window. What settings do I need to change to have my speakers play all the time, not just when the software program is open? I'm using Windows XP. Thanks! -Robbin

Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel"
In the Windows Control Panel find the "Sounds" section and set the default playback device.
Exactly how you do this depends on the computer, but there's some pictures here that should give some clues: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel

This didn't work, I still couldn't hear anything from my speakers. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Audacity program, and now no sound, not even throuth the program. Any hope?

Do you hear anything else? YouTube? Windows Media? Play a CD?

Unplug the turntable and reboot - all of your sound should be back.
Does all your sound come back when you do that?

Is this a USB turntable? If so you will probably need to re-target your sound output to your PC's onboard soundcard (you will need to do this both in Audacity and in Windows).
