Thought I would pose a new question to the members here as my friends over at the Kristal forum seem to think that changing the buffer settings in Audacity may help me. They are just not sure what to change them to. Here is my original problem.
"Have been attempting to use Audacity to mix down finished project in Kristal (Kristal Audio Engine) but am getting unusual problem in that recording has skips or misses. Not sure what problem is. Have set for stereo 44100, 16bit. Doesnt sound like its clipping as actual recording is lower in volume and sounds good, more like a skipping record. Any thoughts out there from you knowlegeable pros? I like Audacity alot, seems easy to use with good interface. What am I doing wrong? Am using Audacity as an external editor for the first time. Have it set up in Kristal under preferences as the external editor. Hit play on Kristal then record button on Audacity. Seems to work well. I can manipulate the levels in Kristal, which is why I want to do it this way. Only trouble is the end product with the skips. Am using a M-Audio Delta 66 with Omni I/O interface. Output in Delta software and Kristal is set to monitor mixer and input in Audacity the same. Am trying to mixdown about 10 separate tracks to one stereo wave file. Any suggestions would be appreciated."
Have an Athlon XP 3000 with 750MB of Ram and a 120GB HD, so I think I have enough power. The song I am trying to record, however, does have about 10 tracks and a number of vst's running. I did try a song with less tracks and it seems to have worked OK. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to change the buffer settings to? Would that really help? I would assume higher the better, but am not real clear on what the buffer actually does. Thanks
