When I try to import a song off of iTunes it doesn't work. It says that it is downloaded but then you hit PLAY it sounds like really bad car brakes. How do i fix this?
Unless you bought the song recently, you may not. I don't remember when Apple stopped using FairPlay copy protection.
Assuming there's no protection, you are trying to open an Apple AAC compressed sound file and Audacity has no idea how to do that.
Go into iTunes Preferences and set the "CD Importing" preferences to WAV or whatever it says in the Windows version. OK the panel and when you go back to iTunes, (I'm guessing now) right-click on the music and it should ask you if you want to produce a WAV version of the song. Say yes.
When it gets done cranking, that new music file should drop right into Audacity.
