Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Seperating tracks

Post by dama7 » Thu Apr 01, 2010 8:24 pm

I know you can seperate tracks by clicking CTRL+M while recording, or CTRL+B while editing. No mater how much "clicking" I do, I can't get the label (flag) to slide up or down the timeline if I need to move it. It has to be simple, but I don't get it. BTW, will placing the label between tracks create seperate tracks when, after saving the project, they're transfered from the PC to a CD? Thanks for any help, I'm suffering from information overload after downloading the beta version.

Labels are changing probably as I type this. Labels are nice, but everybody really wants Edit Markers and Audacity won't do those. So...

You really need to upgrade to 1.3 - 1.3.12 has just been released. Label handling is much improved in 1.3 (and still changings as Koz says ...)

You can get 1.3.12 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

Mine stay rock solid where I put 'em unless I either explicitly drag them around - or if I delete a selection from either within the label track or the audio track in which case thay move.

1.3.12 has brought back the functionality whereby if you select the same timeline chunk of audio and label tracks and then delete - the labels move to stay in synch - hooray.

OK guys, I've already downloaded 1.3.11 but still need to know how to slide the label (flag) up or down the time line between tracks. When I click on it and pull the mouse on way or the other, I just get a blue field, the label doesn't move at all.

You want 1.3.12 not 1.3.11

righto, but i want that dot to stay where it was to mark the start of the next cut to export.
(enable it with a right click should someone need to move it though)

can't drag the arrows unless i move the dot first
as of 1.3.9 anyway
which means i have to move the dot back to line it up

i understood i had to line the arrows up or export multiple had random problems. other than that bug they seem to provide no functionality that is worth all this effort.

do i understand correctly that in 1.3.13++ that the dots will be anchored and the arrows will expand automatically ? and the export multiple problem is gone so we dont have to mess with arrows at all?

it would make more sense to have only one arrow on the right side.
set the dot at the start of the track to export and lock it down. then drag the arrow to the end of the selection. or better just move the arrows to the next dots automatically in case of export multiple. (all tracks should have an implicit dot at the beginning and end for this to work best. )

Audacity 1.3.9 is an old beta version. As already stated the behaviour of labels has been updated to improve functionality (as part of the ongoing development of Audacity.
Please use the latest version of Audacity 1.3 and If you still have questions start a new topic rather than hijacking someone else's question.
