Recording not recording anything

I have used Audacity in the past and it has worked great although it has been awhile. I wanted to record something today and it won't record what is playing on my machine. It just records dead air and that is it. The only thing that I can think of that may have changed since I last recorded anything is that we have gone to a VOIP system here. In the recording options under Audio I/O I have a Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input option for the device as well as Sigma Tel C - Major Audio and several Cisco Tapi Record options. None of the Cisco options will work when recording. The other two will record, but once again all they do is record dead air.

I just changed the recording device to Sigma Tel C-Major Audio. That didn't do anything by itself, but then I noticed on the tool bar there was a pull down next to the input volume control that indicated Microphone. I changed that to stereo and now it seems to be working. Can't get that pull down to be editable again though?
