Second Track Recoding Volume

Hey,

When I record the first track, either using my laptop's mic or an external mic, the sound gets picked up properly. But when I try laying down a second track, the sound barely gets picked up. Do you know what's going on? It used to not do this.

I messed with the "internal/external" mic setting, which screwed things up for a bit. I eventually got the settings back to normal (its set on internal mic), but I'm still having difficulties.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Dennis

This sounds very odd, in fact it does not seem to make sense at all.
What are you recording? Your voice?

Try this:
1) Open Audacity and record you voice. That works fine?
2) Rewind to the beginning of the track and press the record button. This records at a very low volume?
3) Delete both tracks (click the [X] on the track)
4) Record your voice again. This works fine?
5) Mute the first track and repeat step 2. What happens?

Yup, that is exactly what happens. When I try to lay down the second track, it hardly picks up anything. Also, if I record for a long time the mic "crashes" and records nonsense sounds. I'll try the muting thing, but I don't think that will work. Plus I need to hear the first track to record the second one.
