I'm trying to record from my microphone, and it works, but when I try to record from my mic while I have music playing for example, it records both my mic output and speaker output.
I often use it to record the speaker output to save midi sounds as mp3, but now I can't seem to make it stop.
Help is appreciated.

tell us what you are using and how it is connected. what options are selected? what operating system? we need more info? do you know what you did to make it record the first time?
Re: Records both from microphone and speakers
I have XP, and there isn't any special setup. I have speakers out and mic in in the front and back of my computer, I have my headset plugged into the mic in and audio out on the front of my system, and speakers plugged into the audio out in the back. But when something is plugged into the audio out in the front, the back doesn't work. Foe headphones I figure.
For recording in audacity, I have MS Sound imput, line in/mic in, realtek HD digital input, and adaptec gamebridge. The last two do nothing, but MS sound imput and line in/mic in record both from speakers and microphone.
For playback I have MS sound mapper output and realtex HD audio rear output, neither of them seem to do anything.

Re: Records both from microphone and speakers
do you have a little loudspeaker icon in the lower right tray?
click on it and get to realtek. you can mute the mike and other things in mixer tab as well as adjust volume and other things.
if not in the tray then look in the control panel for realtek.

Re: Records both from microphone and speakers
You may be recording Mix-Out or Stereo-Mix or What-U-Hear instead of just the microphone. That's the setting you use to record internet audio.
The setting is in Windows Control Panels...
Windows Control Panel

There is an instruction page how to start recording internet audio, but I don't think there is one to tell you to stop.

Thank you Koz! I just muted Stereo Mix in the record panel and it worked!
Thanks a ton, I am going to save that page ^^
