For some reason my latest project did not create a AUP file. I only have the data folder with all the au files. There are too many to copy and paste to make one recording, any suggestions to merge the multiple au files into one aup?

are you sure?
if you got the little data file chunks in the data folder there is an aup folder around unless somebody erased it.

sometimes if you have a folder with many files you might miss it.
i have encountered this several times.

do a search on your pc for that file extension.

feature request - start every audacity file with zzzz so we can do a sort on the folder and group all the audacity files for quick viewing.

Unfortunately I am sure. I did a search and nothing! It may have been discarded by accident, but I am unsure what to do next.

I am. I am looking for anything ending in .aup, nothing yet.

I am afraid it may have been deleted.

AUP isn't a sound file. It's a project manager -- a bookkeeper. It's job is to point to all the other files in your show so the Audacity Export tools can make a sound file.

Do you remember what you called the project? I mean the exact name? You can get into more trouble here than you think.

It's most unusual for the AUP file not to get created, but if you have show damage, you might be able to use the Crash Recovery tools to put it back together.

YOU ARE WARNED to inspect your heard drive and make sure you have room for the show. If you don't, the crash tools will themselves crash. Figure about 700MB per hour.

Even with all your shows on the drive, the amount of work should never go over 90% of the total. That's when the computer itself starts acting wacky.

The AUP file is always created in the same folder as the _data folder. It's extraordinarily unusual for it to be created anywhere else, because it won't work.

This is the kind of problem you can get into if you moved the show between machines. Did you do that? Capture the performance on one machine and try to edit it on another?

My only explanation is that it got deleted some how... certainly could be a user error issue!

Will think about the previously mentioned recovery download... I was trying to avoid that.

We never admit that. It's never user error. The computer always did something evil.

Without the bookkeeper, the AUP file, you're staring at a vault full of money/clips and have no idea who owns what. Crash Recovery is about the only hope.

Be sure and check the available room on your computer! If Crash Recovery fills up your hard drive, you may discover that the computer will not start. I'll print that in red if you want.
