Which ver for Sound Activated recording? 1.2.6 or 1.3.11?

For Windows XP Pro:
1 - Which version has Sound Activated recording abilities?
2 - I have ver 1.2.6 but can not find the feature... is in in there somewhere?
3 - Do I remove 1.2.6 before installing 1.3.11?
4 - Since 1.3.11 is Beta can I have both installed and run each as needed?
Thanks for any help.

You can certainly install both safely, but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.3 Projects will not open in 1.2
Any time there's a race, we will always send you to 1.3. Audacity 1.2 is no longer under development or active support.

I don't know. Newer Macs didn't support 1.2.6 even when it was current. We can wait for one of the Windows elves to drop by.
Don't let the "Unstable Beta" label fool you. We wish the Developers would let us change it. Audacity 1.2 hasn't been the flagship product for a long time.

Thanks Koz. I guess I'll go ahead and install 1.3.11 since I can run both at the same time.
If I uninstall 1.2.6 after installing 1.3.11... will 1.3.11 still work?

<<<I can run both at the same time.>>>
No. You can't. You can safely install both but only use one at a time. Audacity 1.2 leaves a preferences file behind that succeeding versions use so you don't have to put all your preferences in again. It survives the death of 1.2.
As a side issue, you install Audacity fresh not by horsing software around, but by destroying the preference file. Launch or restart Audacity and it wakes up at first birthday.

Oh, you're on Windows. Audacity 1.2 puts its preferences in the Dreaded Windows Registry. Audacity only made that mistake once. There are special tools to remove it (if you need to).

Thanks again for the help.
What tools to remove pref's from Windows registry?
Where can I get them?
What keys do I remove?
Thanks again.

Sorry to drop in half way through -
Audacity 1.2.6 does not have voice activated recording. It is only available in Audacity 1.3
Usually there is no need to mess around with the Windows registry and it is definitely safer to leave the Windows registry alone if you are not sure what you are doing.
In most situations you can just install Audacity 1.3 and either leave Audacity 1.2.6 installed, or uninstall it, whichever you prefer.
In the unlikely event that Audacity 1.2.6 passes a problem to Audacity 1.3, it will be obvious that there is a problem - just ask on the form and mention that you previously had Audacity 1.2.6 installed and we will be able to talk you through the safe way to resolve the issue.
